STANDARDS, SECURITY AND CERTIFICATION FOCUS
continuously re-invested in future developments on behalf of the member community.
Initially starting in Europe, the CAT-iq 2.0 certification opened for the US in October 2013 and in Canada in April 2015. In total the certification program covers 39 countries where bases and handsets can today be certified CAT-iq 2.0.
Now that CAT-iq 2.0 is mature, gateways, bases and handsets from different manufacturers can interwork properly. As of today, 31 handsets and 11 base stations/gateways have been certified or re- certified since February 2011. Over the past two years, 18 handsets and 6 base devices have been through the certification program.
CAT-iq 2.0 has been adopted by a wide portfolio of companies, with certification already achieved from the following companies: Askey Computer Corporation, Astoria Networks, CCTTECH, Gigaset, Panasonic, Samsung, Sagemcom, Sercom, Swissvoice, Vtech, Zyxel, and ZTE
In the field, it seems there are different strategies for using CAT-iq 2.0. Some operators have multiple handsets and handset providers but only a limited number of gateway providers. Some operators have
multiple gateways and gateway providers but are limiting the number of handset providers. The key value is that CAT-iq 2.0 has enabled operators to make such choices.
Next steps
After CAT-iq 2.0, the CAT-iq Working Group has been working on certification programs for CAT-iq 2.1 and CAT-iq 3.0 (SUOTA). CAT-iq 2.1 brings additional features. Some CAT-iq 2.0 optional features such as call transfer, CLIR, and conferencing are now mandatory in CAT-iq 2.1, and some new mandatory and optional features are defined, such as additional notifications allowing better support for sync between bases and handsets, enhanced security, handset adaptive transmit power control, SMS, answering machine access, etc.
SUOTA (Software Update Over the Air) is an important feature, which enables new features to be implemented in the field. Once the SUOTA certification program is in place, operators and manufacturers will be able to more easily deploy new handsets and update handset features with a wider variety of devices.
The certification programs for both CAT-iq 2.1 and SUOTA will be available soon and we
will welcome devices during the validation phase. Manufacturers who are interested in supporting and contributing devices should contact the CAT-iq WG via the DECT secretariat (secretariat@dect.org).
