MYRIAD OF HOME CONTROL APPLICATIONS
Myriad of Home
Control applications –
giving IoT a voice
The incorporation of the DECT technology into gateway and modems is opening a further opportunity for service providers looking to enhance their proposition with Smart Home services.
The latest generation of devices, incorporating the ULE (Ultra Low Energy) enhancement brings the mature technology to the forefront of potential candidates for IOT wireless technologies. However, it’s the combination of voice and data in a single solution which sets this technology above the others for truly enabling smart home applications.
DECT has for many years been the technology of choice from the fixed line operator community
for cordless telephony. The introduction of CAT-iq, which supports HDVoice and multi- line services into the IP backbone, has seen a resurgence and confirmation as the voice technology for the future. Over 25million
DECT-enabled home gateways/modems presents a significant installed base, which has provided the ideal springboard for the development and deployment of ULE. Key to the potential success is that ULE can be enabled with a simple in-life upgrade, allowing immediate access to the already deployed gateways with a software update. These gateways/modems are the nucleus for the ULE ecosystem, enabling a myriad of home control applications. ULE has been developed to support battery powered devices such as smart plugs, thermostats, motion sensors, smoke and gas detectors, door entry, water detector, and temperate control valves with a potential to operate with a battery life
in excess of 10 years.
